Effective effort in Pandiculation
Persistent resting tension (tonus/muscle tone) is the cause of most of the aches that people bring to my office.
Muscles with 30-40% will be cause a lot of pain. This tension is largely reflexive, automatic. It is like a dimmer switch that hasn’t been turned off all the way. Leaving a dull glow. To make matters worse, we can’t feel this low level tension.
How can we get rid of it? Using Pandiculation, gentle tightening of the muscle until we can feel the tension, then slowly letting the tension release. Cats pandiculate about 40 times a day. That’s how they stay so supple. Pandiculating out of whole body tension patterns can bring us a new freedom. We can begin to move, to feel the tension sensation, to escape from the postural stress these tension cause.
